PROPOSED INCREASE PAYMENT TO MEDICARE ADVANTAGE PLANS FOR “HIGH RISK” MEMBERS

PROPOSED INCREASE PAYMENT TO MEDICARE ADVANTAGE PLANS FOR “HIGH RISK” MEMBERS

Yesterday, Medicare released new guidelines that are to take effect in the year 2020. The new guidelines will make changes to the amount Medicare pays Medicare Advantage plan companies for people that are considered “High Risk.” This increase in payments will certainly add increased stability to a growing Medicare Advantage Market.

Medicare currently pays the Medicare Advantage Plans companies a set amount each month per member. If the member has certain health conditions, Medicare will increase the monthly amount paid to the plan to help offset the higher cost of care. The new guidelines will add more health conditions to the list of “approved conditions.” This payment increase allows for the Medicare Advantage Plans to better treat patients with more health conditions, while at the same time maintaining the affordability of Medicare Advantage Plans for everyone. This is certainly a sign that points to longevity and stability of the Medicare Advantage Plan program.
